In the Vedic culture Gurus are given the highest respect. Guru literally means dispeller of darkness: Gu means darkness, and Ru means remover or dispeller.

Darkness means  that which obscures the light of awareness. Guru is the enlightenment guide that facilitates one in the realization of the true Self/ divine self.  The guru eliminates avidya, or ignorance. It is when one identifies with their outer reality than the inner light and divine wisdom.

By reciting this mantra with a sincere heart,  it asks for the ability to see the guru in all forms acknowledging, loving and serving the inner guru. The guru is your own self, the inner guiding light.

This mantra is usually chanted after the first Ganesha mantra. You can chant this mantra for inner guidance and for clarity.

Guru is the Creator (Brahma),
Guru is the Preserver(Vishnu),
GuruDeva is Destroyer(Maheshwara)
Guru is the absolute (singular) the highest consciousness
to such Absolute splendor, Salutations
